About Servals
African Servals are NOT
pets. The Savannah Breed Section does not recommend that anyone consider
the Serval as a pet, but wishes that people will consider the Savannah
Breed as a more than worthy alternative. The
Savannah cat is carefully bred to
resemble as closely as possible the dramatic long lean elegance of the
Serval while behaving completely as a domestic cat should.
The pictures of African Servals on this webpage are solely to
demonstrate the physical attributes of the Serval, that as the ancestor of
our breed we wish to replicate in our domestic
Savannah.
African Servals look amazing, their long legs, long neck and huge ears
combined with the clear bold black spotting give an extremely exotic and
striking appearance. Nevertheless, the Serval is a wild cat, and as such
can behave unpredictably. Servals require specialized enclosures and
habitats, as much for their safety and happiness as for ours. They also
require specialized handling by people that have spent the necessary time
to train and learn the specific skills and techniques to safely interact
with these wildcats.
